The
Gonstead Technique
South Point Chiropractic uses the Gonstead System,
which is unique because it is thorough, complete and specific in both
analyzing and treating the spine. We address your entire spine when
evaluating for the
presence of vertebral subluxations (spinal
misalignments producing nerve
interference or irritation) which cause ill
health. This is
accomplished by:
X-ray
X-ray films enable visualization of the entire structure of your spine.
This is helpful in evaluating for any disease processes, fracture,
posture, joint and disc integrity and vertebral misalignments.
Exam
Upon your first visit, Dr. Prii
will perform a
comprehensive health
history, a thorough spinal examination that includes neurological,
chiropractic evaluation, and palpation.
Palpation
Palpation is the process of feeling your spine to detect swelling,
tenderness and motion of the vertebra.
Instrumentation
The preferred instrument used in the Gonstead
System is the Nervoscope.
The Nervoscope detects uneven distributions of heat along the spine which
can be indicative of inflammation and nerve pressure. This instrument is
guided down the length of your back and feels like two fingers gliding
down each side of your spine.
The Gonstead Adjustment
After
a complete analysis, Dr. Prii is ready to perform any necessary
spinal adjustments. The focus of the Gonstead adjustment is to be as
specific, precise and accurate as possible. Dr. Prii utilizes his hands to
reposition the misaligned vertebra which corrects this bio mechanical
problem. This allows for proper nerve function and restoration of optimal
health. The adjustment is a gentle procedure.
Chiropractic is beneficial for musculo-skeletal problems. Visceral
problems including asthma, digestive disorders, migraines, ear infections
in children, bed wetting and menstrual disorders can also be related to
spinal nerve function and can often be helped through chiropractic care.

The
History of Gonstead
Dr. C. S. Gonstead (1898-1978) the "Miracle Man" of
Chiropractic. His
technique became the Hall Mark for the
entire
profession. With a background in mechanical engineering, he saw the human
spine as an intricate engineering wonder and he studied it every chance he
had. His work with thousands of spinal cases, his constant clinical
studies of the spine, and his own innate knowledge of how the spine works,
explains his ingenuity in finding, identifying and correcting subluxations
no one else could.
Following in the steps of Dr. Gonstead, Dr. Alex and Dr. Doug Cox have
maintained his teachings which are now taught in Chiropractic Colleges
around the world.
The Gonstead system gives rise to a specific, definite approach, to every
segment of the spinal column. The detailed analysis includes
instrumentation, digital palpation, motion palpation, visualization, x-ray
followed by adjusting the articulations of the spine by hand only!
Our Doctors are trained exclusively in the Gonstead system. There is a
clinical logic to every decision that is made for each and every patient.
This ensures that the principles outlined by Dr. Gonstead will be
duplicated, the results achieved and satisfied patients will be the
mission of Gonstead Chiropractic.
Our
Training
Education
All doctors of chiropractic must complete a rigorous and detailed
education. After completing the necessary pre-med coursework, they begin a
four-year program at an accredited college of chiropractic. The
chiropractic curriculum includes detailed studies of: anatomy, physiology,
X-ray, clinical sciences, spinal biomechanics and adjusting, preventative
health care, and many other related topics. By the time of graduation, the
average doctor of chiropractic has completed 4,485 classroom hours,
compared to 4,248 classroom hours completed by a medical doctor. Most
chiropractic colleges have extracurricular Gonstead clubs, where aspiring
students can spend time in addition to the standard coursework in studying
and refining their skills needed to excel in the Gonstead System.
The Gonstead System
After graduation, doctors of chiropractic have many opportunities to
further their education in the Gonstead System. The Gonstead Seminar is
taught by renowned doctors who practice chiropractic consistent with the
teachings of the late Dr. Clarence Gonstead. Through these seminars,
doctors of chiropractic can earn advanced certification in the Gonstead
System. In addition, this system has many researchers conducting ongoing
studies to ensure that it is on the cutting edge. Licensed Gonstead doctors exist
worldwide, offering their expertise in this highly advanced and results
driven healing art.
